WHAT IS AN OCT SCAN AND WHO SHOULD HAVE ONE?

March 13, 2020

OCT scans are recommended for people aged 30 or over, who would like to find out more about their eye health, or those with diabetes or a family history of eye disease.

They are particularly useful for detecting potentially serious eye conditions that generally don’t have any symptoms until they start to impact on your vision. These include;

– Glaucoma
– Age-related macular degeneration
– Macular hole
– Detached reitna

In fact, an OCT scan can detect Glaucoma up to four years earlier than traditional methods.

Combining an OCT with your eye test allows your optician to record a baseline image on file, and any changes over time can be monitored.

We are currently the only independent opticians in the local area to provide this service.
